We’ve a long term commitment to environmental sustainability

We see the issue of environmental sustainability as a profoundly practical question of how we play our part in providing healthy convenient food to a growing population − forever.

We see the issue of environmental sustainability as a profoundly practical question of how we play our part in providing healthy convenient food to a growing population − forever.

Generations of consumers trust our food because of the health and wellness benefits of rapid freezing – capturing the food’s fresh, natural taste and locking-in nutrients – as well as our industry leading role in sourcing raw materials responsibly and ethically.

In 2010 we launched our first Group-wide sustainability programme, “Forever Food”. Organised through three pillars of values, Forever Food is one of the world’s first comprehensive and wholly integrated sustainability programmes for a frozen food company. It embraces activities ranging from responsible fishing and agriculture, water use, food waste reduction to responsible food labelling and offering nutritionally balanced products.

Among Forever Food’s three pillars, our “Environmental” value has six work streams; climate change, waste, packaging, water use, transport efficiency and sustainable sourcing.  Our “Social/Community” value covers both ethical sourcing and nutritional labelling, and our “Economic” value includes nutritional balance and healthy lifestyle work streams.

Forever Food coordinates engagement with all of the Group’s key stakeholders on matters of sustainability.  We are members of a variety of organisations, such as the British Nutrition Foundation, the Food & Drinks Federation in the UK, the Fish Federation in Germany, the European Fish Processors Federation and the Round Table for Sustainable Palm Oil. We support sustainable development progress with a wide spectrum of industry key stakeholders including the UN’s Food Agriculture Organisation, Marine Stewardship Council (Birds Eye and iglo were among the original founders under Unilever with WWF), the International Fishmeal and Fish Oil Organisation, the Aquaculture Stewardship Council, Seafish Industry Authority, Client Earth, Earthwatch, Ethical Trading Initiative and the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange.  We also collaborate with the World Wide Fund for Nature, and are proud to be exclusive sponsors for The Prince’s Countryside Fund for Peas in the UK.

The Forever Food sustainability development programme has been mapped out as a journey of 125 steps over the period from 2010 to 2015. We will,  in future, measure its performance using the Global Reporting Inititiave as a basis to report all workstreams.

Forever Food builds on a long tradition of responsible long-term thinking in the business and embodies the trust that consumers have in our brand that we will make responsible choices easier to make.
